The Davis family invited me over to photograph my very favorite kind of session. They let me be a fly on the wall while they made breakfast one morning, allowing me to snap shots of a very typical day in their life. The kids fought and giggled and tried to help with the eggs, bacon, and pancakes. They threw food, asked for more chocolate milk and said a family prayer.
These kinds of sessions are such an honor for me to shoot. I feel so privileged to show people little glimpses of their own lives and just how spectacular the ordinary days look. These captured moments will remind them of this exact season and hopefully bring back many memories.
I wrote about Sherice last month during the Mother’s Project and about how she breathes whimsy into her family’s life. She and her husband Andy both do that. They create a place for their children to explore and to learn. I love their interactions … whether having fun or instructing or disciplining, there is always permission to ask questions. They are raising curious, playful boys and it’s a joy to watch.
The fun thing about Andy and Sherice is that they give their friends that same permission and space … to question beliefs and talk through hard issues. They absolutely encourage openness and honesty in every relationship in their life, which makes them so approachable. For my husband and I, they have become dear friends whose opinion we highly value. As parents, they make it look easy.
Sherice wanted to do this session before baby Eden gets here in August. She wanted just a few shots of her belly, but mostly she wanted to remember this phase of life B.E. (before Eden). Their family has looked the same for almost four years and it’s a phase worth remembering.
Thank you guys so much for allowing me into your home and into a day in your life. I absolutely loved being there and I’m sure this will be one of my favorite sessions of the year. Love you all so very, very much!
