I was so tickled when Chloe won my giveaway in November. Their family seemed like a great fit for my new Day in the Life sessions. (If you sign up for my newsletter, you might win free stuff too, hint hint!)
Chloe wanted exacted what I wanted to give. She was craving photographs that documented their life, exactly how they live it in this season. The Marty family splits their time between Denver, CO and Phoenix, AZ, where John works. The week after Christmas happened to be one where they were all here in Denver, so we spent that Monday morning together. They cooked breakfast, played in their jammies, and went to one of their favorite coffee shops. I really felt like I was watching (and documenting) a very typical day for them.
Their son Raffa was a delight. He was easy-going and full of life. His smile was so contagious and every time he grinned, his parents would beam right back at him. I loved the electricity between them all—they were thrilled simply by being together. They were all very present and in sync and photographing them made my heart very happy.
I can’t wait to show you more stories like this throughout 2016 as I transition into documentary-only sessions. Life captured as we actually live it is the only memories worth saving. I hope, more than anything, that these photos show you the value of this kind of photography.
(This shoot was my Best Morning Ever option, which means I photographed this sweet family for several hours. I offer these sessions to clients who live anywhere, even outside of Colorado. I would LOVE to chat with you about your family’s Best Day Ever.)
Oh, I love this! I once read about a photographer that chronicled a family that she lived with. It was something crazy like 30 years or something. Ever since I read about that, I’ve loved the idea of having a session like this. I’m hoping to do this when I can fit it into the budget in a few years. You did such an awesome job of capturing precious moments! I love the ones where the boy is in the blinds and on the kitchen counter. Fantastic!
30 years! How incredible. What a work of art. And I would so recommend doing this with someone … it’s so valuable for so many years! Thank you for your kind words, too, :).
My brother is a film photographer and did a documentary style shoot for my daughter’s newborn photos. We LOVED how they turned out. Your photography is beautiful, and I feel like I’ve gotten a glimpse at this family’s personality through the pictures. 🙂

Thank you so much for your words Lora! And SUCH a cool newborn shoot!
